No Room for Racism
Sunday 8th October was not only our game against Newcastle United, but one of the matches designated for saying “No Room for Racism”.
WHUST was invited to speak on the pitch in the buildup to the match about this important issue alongside Sanil from Inclusive Irons and Jo from Pride of Irons.
Sanil opened the discussion and WHUST followed on. The question asked by Chris Scull was:
“We have all three of you today from different fan groups coming together. What is the message here for all Hammers fans in the way we support each other as allies?”.
Representing WHUST, Sue Watson stated that West Ham United is a large, diverse community that brings together people of all backgrounds. As allies it is critical we are crystal clear in saying there is no room for racism in any forum including social media.
Importantly we also need to actively continue the work to further diversify our fanbase, be it from communities in East London, around the UK or overseas. All fans are welcome and after all we are West Ham UNITED.
Representing Pride of Irons, Jo added their points around discrimination and how football is for everyone.
Anton Ferdinand also gave an interview thanking Sue, Sanil and Jo for their thoughts on this important issue.
