Premier League fans rally to Fair Game

THREE Premier League supporters groups gave their unequivocal backing for Fair Game today in a move that represents a huge boost for the organisation’s aims to overhaul the governance of football.
The three - Canaries Trust, Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust, and West Ham United Supporters’ Trust - also called on MPs to back Fair Game and commit to implementing the recommendations of the recent Fan-Led Review in full.
Sue Watson, the Chair of West Ham United Supporters' Trust, said: ”West Ham United Supporters' Trust is proud to stand with Fair Game and fully endorse Fair Game Week.
“We stand united with all, who love our beautiful game, in calling for an Independent Regulator of English Football, financial sustainability, good governance of our clubs, equality standards and a proper voice for supporters and the communities they represent, in their clubs, both through shadow boards and the 'golden share'.
“We fully support the call for a new Football Bill and inclusion in May's Queen's Speech. After all football is nothing without supporters - now is the time to act to protect our history, our heritage not just for us but for those that will come after us.”
Robin Sainty chair of the Canaries Trust, said: “The heritage of the game of football in the country is being eroded, and that's why we support Fair Game. Like them we want to see football governed with fairness, openness and transparency at its core and putting clubs at the heart of the communities they serve.”
Martin Cloake, the Co-chair of THST, said: “We need a game that is sustainable and champions good governance, equality standards and proper fan and community engagement. And that is why THST backs Fair Game."
Niall Couper, CEO of Fair Game, added: “It’s fantastic news to get the full support of these three groups. Football is really starting to come together. In recent weeks we have seen a poll that indicated that 85% of fans of Premier League clubs want an independent regulator - a key demand of Fair Game’s.
“It is now up to MPs to listen and ensure the views of the wider football community are listening to and a new Football Bill is including in the next Queen’s Speech.”
